Of all major US Cities, Atlanta has the largest percentage of tree canopy. While it is also true that Atlanta has lost large portions of tree cover over the past 30 years, so have many other cities. Atlanta has one of the most well-enforced and compehensive tree ordinances in the country.
Food for thought: many of the cities listed in this chart do not have tree ordinances that regulate trees on private property. Furthering Atlanta’s top-dog status, most of the surrounding incorporated cities of the Atlanta metro area have tree ordinances and replanting programs. Few US metro areas can boast that claim.
